CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
POLITICAL DISCUSSIONS
(Special to th? "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N.,- This Day. The Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce has recently been criticised for wrapping, itself up in a, political atmosphere, the chief critic being Mr...3)1. A. Eliott, an ex-President of the. Chamber and a member of the Wellington Harbour Board. Mr. Eliott forwarded his resignation because he thought: the: chamber had interfered in matters" b|e-' yorid its jurisdiction. " ■■•'"' "^-r-\ \ . This criticism was answered at a; 'sppcial meeting of the chamber last evening when it was agr.eed after a lengthy discussion, that tfie mark had not been overstepped. It was held that while party politics had not been countenanced, it was impossible to be dissdemted from politics' because there* was very little legislation that did not affect trade and commerce. While some members were inclined to think the chamber should confine itself to city and district affairs, it was eventually decided to remain affiliated with' the - Associated Chambers on the grounds that unity was strength. At the same time an endeavour is to be made to take a more active part in af-' fairs relating to the prosperity of local trade and commerce.
