IMPORTATION OF BIRDS
STRICTER CONDITIONS
IMPOSED BY GOVERNMENT
Tho Government has deoidod to Revise stricter conditions in connection the granting of authority for tho importation of birds. ■ "The importation of various kinds of fohda is already definitely prohibited," eaid the Minister of Internal Affairs, |(the Hon. J. A. Young) last evening. f After reviewing tho whole matter, it Jias been decided that in cases where authority is granted for importation Ihe conditions will bo made more stringent in ' future. Authorities will 1)0 granted only in cases of birds being .imported from Australia (with the ck'ception of States not declared free of •Newcastle disease for sis months) and .{from England. "Tho birds must, in every case, bo (accompanied by a declaration from the '^consignor that they have been in the iiiountry of export for a period of six ■months and have not been affected by or in contact with any disease, to•gother with a certificate of health from a, Government officer appointed to give .Certificates. Inspection on arrival in jthe' Dominion will also be insisted upon Ibs in the past. ' "Persons desirous of obtaining perjnission to import birds , other than •lomestie must give the Department of Internal Affairs at least three weeks' notice prior to tho date on which tho ■permit is required. Permits should be in- hand before any orders are placed fend arrangements made- for shipment."
