NEGLIGENT DRIVER FINED
"I cannot overlook:',the-faoi>'that in the last three months the defendant has been twice convicted of similar offences," remarked Mr. T. B. McNeil, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court at Petone yesterday when fining William John HeHihy £5 for negligent driving. ' Detective W. McLennan said that Herlihy had hit a cyclist ope nigh* °" Seaview Road. He had previously been convicted of dangerous driving arid of negligent driving, and the detective asked that his licence'be cancelled. Mr. L. H. Herd, counsel for the defendant, said that .-Herlihy had been dazzled by, approaching lights. His driving licence was necessary to him for business reason*.The Magistrate ordered the conviction to be endorsed on Herlihy's licence, and allowed him six weeks in which to pay the fine. m^mmmmmmmm mmm———mi
