COMING CONFERENCE

RESTORATION OF PRICES

(Special to the "Evening Post.") MASTEETON, This Day. Opening with prayer by the Euv. John Da-vie, the Intcrprovincial Conference of the Tanners' Union'will be held on Tu'osday and- Wednesday next. An address will be delivered by the Mayor of Mastcrton (Mr, T. Jordan), an the president's address will follow. The chairman will be Mr. Lloyd Ham-' mond. T.lic agenda paper, carries . fifty-two; remits, some, of which seem, likely, to give rise to extended discussion. A group of 'remits-relating, to''economic conditions- and currency is headed by one from 'Waimarino, which reads: "That tho. raising of the prices of commodities be the foremost plank in the Farmers' Union policy, .and all other remits at conferences take subsidiary place until price levels are restored to a payable basis." A rcinil; sent in by the Wellington Provincial Executive proposes that the Government bo supported in retaining an oversea exchange rate pegged at 25 per cent. Three remits, from AVellrngton, Carterton, and Ekctahuna, prox)ose that any quota restrictions on exports of primary produce be opposed vigorously. Other remits urge the abolition of the land tax, a further reduction in all interest rates, a< reduction in tho number of members of Parliament, the institution of State lotteries in aid of hospitals and charitable aid, subsidies on fertilisers, the opening of trade with the East, the reduction of tele-: phone rentals, and the clearance- of noxious weeds. A Gladstone remit roads: "That this conference advise the Dairy Producers' Board to give effect to the proposed export restrictions by: (a) the prohibition of export of whey butter; (b) the elimination, -of second quality ..butter, leaving for export finest and first grade only; (c) putting into effect the most complete system of grading for quality." •■ - ■ .
