A CHEERFUL SPIRIT
TRIBUTE TO THE PEOPLE
A tribute to the .way. in .which the people are facing the difficulties confronting them at the present time was paid by the Prime Minister when replying to the toast of. Parliament jat the bowlers' social on Saturday, evening. , "After 25 years, I want to say that I have still a very genuine belief in the New Zealand Parliament," saidMr. Forbes. "The way in which a country meets its problems depends on the character of its people, and. it is the. people of a country which enables it to- overcome its difficulties. One of the, characteristics of the British people is its staying power. Every thoughtful man-realises that the world: is passing through very difficult times at present, but they can only be met by a cheerful "spirit. The man jvc can respect is the man who has troubles and can face them with a smile. • We have difficult problems, and we can only dealwith them to the best of our ability. We. have to depend on the assistanceand co-operation of the people of the country. As far as the people of New Zealand are concerned, I- feel that they aro prepared to face the difficulties, and face them without .whining."
