ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

WELLINGTON CANDIDATES

THIS MORNING'S WORK

(By "Rangatira.") The weather was as perfect as one could wish for the galloping at Treatlam this morning, being fine, mild, and without a breath of wind. Tho plough, a .trifle slower than on Thursday owing to having been watered, was used by the "older horses and the course proper by the two-year-olds. No sensational limes were recorded, but Good Hunt-

in S, Aiguille, The Quorn, Guarantee, and Pegged Exchange all went nicely. Autopsy (J. Gunn), starting from the seven furlongs and always under a good hold, ran his last half-mile in 52 3-ssec. Ho is to be ridden in the Telegraph by L. G. Morris, as Cadland has declined his engagement. Bed Sun (W. E. Shand), beginning from near the nine furlongs and picked ■ UP by Sago (W. E. Eainbow) at the six furlongs, came home his last mile in lmin 45sec, doing his last six furlongs in lmin1 20see, and his last half-mile in 54 l-ssee. The two horses were together at the end. Bed Sun will be ridden in the Cup by G. J. Jones, who was successful on him at Ellerslie. Cape Fair (E. G. Bush) finished a couple of lengths in front of Capetown (Shand) at the' end of seve: furlongs in lmin 33 l-ssec, the last half-mile in 55 2-ssec, Teastream (G. F. Dick) ran the same distance comfortably in lmin 36 2-ssee. Solitaire II (I. Eohloff), picked up by Milnrow (Shand) at the half-mile, run seven furlongs in lmin 33sec, the last half-mile in 53 4-ssee. Milnrow finished about a length in front, but Solitaire II was carrying a good weight. Guarantee (Gunn), Pegged Exchange (Dick), and Epigram (Shand) came down the five furlongs .on the course proper, the first pair, on the outside, finishing together a length in front of Epigram after running lmin 1 2-ssec. Guarantee and Pegged Exchange both worked well. On the same track Dole (B. Morris) came down easily from the six furlongs, taking lmin lOseo for the last five furlongs. Cardinal Moon (C. Pritchard, jun.) and Platter (A. Leach) sprinted half a mile together in 51 2-ssec, the former finishing about a neck in.front. These two horses do not come in till the second day. Late Jest (S. Wilson) did his half-milo in 51 l-ssec. He will be ridden by Wilson if started on Thursday. The Quorn (A. Jenkins) slipped over half a niile in 50 2-ssee, a good effort under a big weight. Tout le Mond (Dick) and Gay Crest (Jenkins) wero sent seven furlongs, the former on this occasion just shading his companion in lmin 32 l-ssec, the last half-mile in 54see. Flower (J. K. Eobertson)'drew out to beat Purse (Wilson) by a couple of lengths at the end of six furlongs in lmin 18 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 51 4-ssec. Lovecourse (Leach), who is to race at Ashhurst, ran seven furlongs, doing the last half-mile in 54 2-ssec. Joie de Val (Leach) was a length in front of Chile (J. D. Martin) at the conclusion of a mile in lmin 46sec, the first half taking 52sec and the last half 54see. It was Chile's first gallop over the distance, and his showing was quite satisfactory. L. Jarvis rides him in Thursday's Highweight. Also over a mile, Lyrical (Dick), who appears to be recovering form, proved a couple of lengths too good for Golden Horn (Gunn) in the same time. Cape of Good Hope (Shand) went with the pair for five furlongs only. ' ■ .• The best gallop of the morning was that of the Gisborne pair, Aiguille (Leach) and Good Hunting Bobertson), who, with the pace on throughout, ran five furlongs in lmin 2 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 l-ssee. They finished on terms. Leach will ride Aiguille in the Apprentices' Plate, and S. Anderson will be on Good Hunting in the Wellington Stakes. Other horses engaged at the meeting, including yesterday's southern arrivals, Euling Light and Shining Gold, did strong work, but were not ' galloped against the watch. The engagements of southern riders announced for the meeting are: —A. E. Ellis, Shatter and Cricket Bat; A. H. Eastwood, Socket, Fracas,' Drumfire, and Zeebru'gge; G. H. Humphries, Wise Choice and Idolise; J.. W. Jennings, Niggerhead and Counterplay (if started in Fitzherbert); 'A. Bussell, Juniper, Shelter, Argentic, and # Counterplay (if started, in Stakes); and H.
