A MERCER'S FAILURE
LARGE AMOUNT OWING
"I understand that the whereabouts oE the bankrupt is unknown. I have not seen him; nor have I received any statement from him," said Mr. S. Tansley, Ofiicial Assignee, at a meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of George Thomas Nation, a mercer, formerly of Wellington, to-day. It was understood, said Mr. Tansley, that Nation left for England about twelve months ago. As far as could be ascertained ,the unsecured liabilities amounted to £3283. Apparently the only asset was an amount of £152 3s 9d held by air. H. MeCorniick, who formerly acter as Nation's solicitor. Mr. McCormick said that the bankrupt left New Zealand in December, 1931, on what was purported to be a business trip. A. meeting of his creditors- was subsequently heid, and it was agreed to carry on the business for a time with as little loss as possible. However, one creditor pressed for payment, and the business was wound up. The principal creditors were:—JMr. Mandcrson, £750; estate of Mrs. Murray, " £800; Mrs. Radeliffo; £300; Swinton and Oates, Ltd. (Auckland), £190 ios 3d: Bing, Harris, and Co., Ltd., £542 lls lOd; Parisian Neckwear, Ltd. (Auckland), £82; Wellington W>ollen Co., £92. The niecUhg resolved; that authority ba given to the Official Assignee to distribute the available asset to the creditors,
