TELEGRAPH CHARGES
(To the Editoi 1.)
Sir,—The Post ■'■.Office", authorities have called upon business to avail themselves .to the fullest use of the cheapened facilities. ■■ With Sthe exception of ; the penny postage, "no further concession has been made,- either by way -of improved facilities, or what is most important and essential, a reduction in the charges all round. Cheapened rates; are the real source of revenue,. but. the ' Government •in business is slow to-;inove. I would, therefore, : tender a few; suggestionsi-^A reversion' to the old rate,of 9d per tele* gram of 12 Words; urgent telegrams at rate and a half. The cost'of bureau calls is almost prohibitive, and ought to be reduced without delay, and <the time limit increased from 3 minutes to 5 minutes. If these concessions were made, I feel sure the revenue .would increase." The rents for private boxes and .telegraphic addresses call for a revision, as a means of reducing costs.—l am, etc.,
