"Give It a Trial" writes: "Viewing the remarkable results produced by the people of Ireland-and. other countries by way of State sweeps to provide money for hospitals, one notes the huge amount—totalling £2,825,357—the Tesult of five sweeps. The sum is free from any tax. Thus the-hospitals have benefited to the extent, of nearly three million pounds. We in' New Zealand are about. overtaxed,, and. the time is ripe for the people themselves, to move, if the Government will not Start" State National Lottery Bonds to provide money for hospitals, and for the unemployed, stf that the Consolidated Fund and. the public may be relieved of ; the heavy. burdens they are at present carrying. It is useless for any section of the community to call State JBonds a lottery or a gamble. Give the' State Lottery Bonds a chance to prove whether they will be approved by the, public;, the; verdict will settle the question".; ' ■
