ASSOCIATION'S REPORT
Tho tenth annual report o£ the Ngaio Progressive Association, to be presented at the annual meeting on Thursday, states that considerable success has rewarded the association's activities.
The Town Hall reserve was cleared and fenced, and access paths formed at the north and south entrances. Suggestions were made to the City Council as to the use to be made of the reserve, and a plan to be: prosecuted-as soon a« funds become available was being prepared. The executive was very active in trying to have the preliminary work for' swimming baths done by •jnemployed labour, but so far without success. As there would be some difficulty in obtaining the necessary x loan for the . erection of the baths urider the present Act, the City Council was asked to consider an, amendment to the Act to provide means for financing the work as soon as conditions return to normal.
■ Persistent requests. were made to the Railway' Board;>to .run .suburban trains' to : the Lambton terminus; but the requests were, unsuccessful.-> As regards the use tOibe made of>the line.-wheh-the Tawa Flat/route is in-operation,; a deputation from they bodies- affected waited on' the chairmaa of- the Railway Board. The' deputation was informed, tliat.the matter would be; given •' serious consideration. .; : The use of; labour under the unemployment scheme benefited . the' district; by the formation of. footpaths and the widening of several roads. The access to-Wades-towii through the Trelissick KeserTe- was improved, but there was- still some difficulty in obtaining" a : legal right-of-way ovei-the fifth : railwdy tunnel. , Concerning tho alternate highway ;to' Wellington by way of.-KhandallWV arid'Nfeaio,-a section, of the work was 'now- being developed, and it was looped that the section from ; the Ngaio Railway statiori.; to.
