UNEMPLOYMENT LEVIES
UNIFORMITY IN RATIONING : (By Telegraph.) (Special to "Tfce Evening Post.") PALMEBSTON $~ This Day. At yesterday's meeting of the Palmer--Bton Jtforth Hospital Board the managing secretary (Mr. A." J. PhilUpps) reported that at a meeting held in. Palmerston North of secretaries representing the Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa, Wanganui, and Palmerston North Hospital B.oards,. the whole positibn of charitable aid rationing in the various districts, was fully- discussed. ■.'."•'.;.■ "The scales of relief granted were compared and as a result of the.meeting each one of those attending secured valuable information which will enable greateruniformity in rationing of charitable aid oases. to be brought about," he' stated. "The position which had arisen in the four centres eorisequehtv upon the cessation of relief by hospital'boards was discussed and the/ following resolutions were passed:— • '.'
"(1) That it is a matter of vital importance that immediate provision,, be made for men on the; tramp; for 'men registered awaiting work; lor men not adequately provided: for in every district by the No. 5 scale of wages, arid to enable this to be' done it is suggested that the 'Unemployment Board be asked 'to make a definite statement as, to procedure.
"(2) That in our opinion itiis necessai'y for the Unemployment Board to-arrange machinery • to.' deal with eviction cases, i.e., cases where tenantsj who are No. 5 workers, ' are ' evicted • from houses and are unable to secure further housing."
■Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P.: "Theone thing about this report that wns required was uniformity, of the ration' stale.";." ' Mr. Philfipps reported tihat a basis hadbeen agreed upon. ' • -
Mr. W. Howell pointed: out that difficulty-, was created by men moving about the country not getting registration transfers. : •-. . " ;•■_■ ■;.--;' '','.''. ■ '■';

Mr: Smith stated that ttten had to be rgistered 14 days, at' each- centre before they could secure work there. (
Mr. Howell said many men neglected tj observe the requirements of the legislation
, Mr. Nash: "They do not understand." Mr. PhillippS'stated that the men who IMd not paid their levies couM not secure work. ,
On the motion of Mr. Nash, seconded by Mr: O. McElroy, it was decided to adopt the recommendations arising out-of the . secretaries', conference and to forward them to.the authorities. •
The chairman thanked the • secretaries for their work and said that the executive officers had a thorough grip of the administration of charitable aid in their respective districts.
