"PECULIAR POSITION"

COMMITTEE'S DILEMMA

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

PALMERSTON N., This Day.

The question was raised at yesterday's meeting of the Feilding Unemployment Committee as to whether Mr. P. A. Edwards could continue to sit on the committee since he had been granted relief work. The Mayor (Mr. C. E. Taylor) was not certain as to the position, but he felt that Mr. Edwarda would be disqualified from acting on the committee. Mr. J. S. Tingey: "Who does Mr. Edwards represent?" Mr. Edwards: "I represent the Labour movement of New Zealand." (Laughter.) The Mayor: "Oh, no." Mr. Edwards: "Well, I represent the Labour movement which has its headquarters in Wellington." The Mayor: "Oh, no. That is not so." Mr. Edwards: "Then I represent the Feilding branch of tho Labour Party." The position was peculiar, said tho Mayor, and it would be necessary to obtain a ruling from the Unemployment Board. It might be possible to have an unemployment committee made up of unemployed entirely. It was agreed to obtain a ruling on the question.
