KEYNOTE OF CONFERENCE

MR. BENNETT SOUNDS

OTTAWA, Ist June.

"Canada will go to the imperial Economic Conference in July with the clear-cut thought that there must be mutual gains and advantages to all the component parts of the greatest commonwealth of free peoples in the history of the world, the British Empire," the Prime Minister, Mr. B. B. Bennett, declared to-night when addressing the Convention of the Western Ontario Conservative. Association at London, Ontario.

Dealing with various aspects of the Conference, Mr. Bennett said:— "In. July we will gather together as partners to see how far it is possible we may keep our trade within our partnership. We comprise the greatest commonwealth of/ free peoples the world has ever known. "We must trade to the advantage,; not of one but of all. There must be mutual gains and advantages. There must be mutual arrangements for the benefit of all parts of the Empire. Agreements must be reached at the Conference that shall be to the perpetual advantage of all paits of the Empire." Ending on a note of optimism in regard to the Conference, the Prime Minister said: "I am sure that with" our people and with our great tradition we will be able to make arrangements which will prove to the benefit, not only of the Dominions, but all parts of the British Empire." CANADA SOUND. The Prime Minister emphasised the sound financial position' of Canada at the present time, pointing out that the people of the Dominion were better off than those of any other nation in the world. The Government has not received notification of the appointment of observers at the forthcoming Imperial Economic Conference by the Peruvian Government, as announced by a lima news dispatch, to the efiect that three officials have, been named as observers <at-:Ottawa. Provision is not made in the.. Conference arrangements for any but representatives of British Empire countries. \
