ASSULT AND ROBBERY
IPALMERSTON NORTH CASE ■ TWO MEN ARRESTED i Arrested in Wellington yesterday by Detectives Jarrold and Hall, John Schumacher, a labourer, aged 25, and Sydney Selwbod, a plasterer, aged 43, (appeared at the Magistrate's Court totday before Mr. E. Page, S.M., and were remanded to appear on Friday at Palmerston North on charges connected with the recent affair at Palmerston when Charles, Joseph Williams was the victim of an assault and robbery in Taonui street. Schumacher was charged with robbing Williams of £53 in money and using .violence, and Selwood was charged with receiving from Schumacher £14 in money, which he knew to have been dishonestly obtained. On the evening of 31st March Mr. Williams was at the Cosmopolitan Club when he received a telephone message that; he was wanted at a side door. On proceeding to the feaoniii street entrance he was met b^f two men, who invited him. along the street. About 20 yards from the corner of Cuba street they.attacked him and robbed; him of £53, one note being of £50 denomination and the remainder single £1 notes..
