START EARLY NEXT .YEAR
While dealing with the unernploy* ment problem in his address at Petona last night, Mr. Walter Nash, the Labour candidate for tho Hutt seat, said he had been informed that the Wainui tunnel would be started early in the New Year. It was estimated that £34,000 would be spent in wages, and it was hoped that tho bulk of the labour, skilled and unskilled, would be obtained from the Lower Hutt, Petone, and Eastbourne areas. In addition, it was proposed to buy all shingle, sand, and pipe requirements in. Lower Hutfc and retone. Wages and purchases should go some way towards affording real relief in Lower Hutt, Petone, and Eastbourne.
