AN ACCESS DIFFICULTY

The Hutt Eirer Board last evening received a request from tho Wellington City Council to be allowed access to a strip of land which the city owns on Gear Island, south of the pipe bridge. The strip is 16ft wide, the full width of tho narrow portion of Gear Island, and carries the Wainui-o-mata water mains. On this strip, which, except where it is bounded by the Hutt River, is surrounded by River Board property, the council proposes to put down trial bores for artesian water, and it therefore desires access over the board's land. The board referred the letter to its solicitors lor the settlement of a legal question.
