INTERMEDIATE CREDIT

The monthly meeting of the Rural Intermediate Credit Board was held in Wellington, when the .following members were present:—Colonel J. J. Esson (chairman), Messrs. J. W. Macdonald (Commissioner of Knral Intermediate Credit), John Brown T. E. Corkill, Norton Francis, A. D. Park, and W. Waddel. The Commissioner reported that the New Zealand Farmers' Union is\ furthering the formation of an association in the Waikouaiti-Palmerston district of the South Island in co-operation with the Disj trict'lntermediate Credit Supervisor, DunI edin, who has addressed a meeting, arranged by the Falmerston branch of the union, [t is expected that an association will be formed in the near future. The New Zealand Farmers' Union has also assisted^ in arousing interest in the Nelson district," »nd it is believed that-an association will be formed shortly to operate in the Poko"oro, Ngatimoti, and Dovedale districts. Further co-operative rural intermediate credit associations have held their annual general meetings, and almost without exception a very satisfactory position has been recorded. A substantial volume of business has been transacted, and increases I have been disclosed over the business transacted during: the previous year. The amounts advanced by a number of the associations are now attaining substantial proportions, and the directors anticipate that, continued increases will bo shown. The board had under consideration the question of co-operating with the Unemployment Board in order to assist farmers who may desire to utilise unemployment scheme N0.54b for increasing the production from their farms, and has expressed its willingness to assist in the matter as far as it is able. ! The board gave consideration to certain suggestions which were made with the obI ject ot assisting cooperative rural intermediate credit associations in the administration of their business, and decisions which should be acceptable to associations were.arrived at.
