GOVERNMENT'S POSITION LONDON,.22nd'August.1 All newspapers-agree that the political situation .arising, out of the financial crisis is a most, critical one. The Government's position last night was precarious. . The "Daily Mail" says that the .Government has ordered the suspension of all War Office works and services at Home and abroad. It is' understood that similar instructions are being issued to the Admiralty^ the Air Force, and the Office of Works. According to the'"Daily : Herald" the Conservatives are demanding that 75 per cent, of the Budget deficit be met by economies and only 25 per (jent. by taxation. "The Times "says that members of the London Common Council have petitioned the Lprd Mayor to convene the. Corporation to appeal to Mr. Mac Donald to relieve the distressed state of the people and restore international confidence.l .' The National Chamber of Trade, including 100,000 trader!, have addressed Mr. Map Donald, Mr. Snowden, and the Opposition leaders, demanding real economy. ,
