SATURDAY'S SUCCESSES
The attendances'at the Wellington Competitions on Saturday -were larger than on the previous days, and the evening's programme,, which was bright and interesting, -was presented to ;a very appreciative audience. '•-.' ■ , ■ The' following awards were made:—; IRISH ;> FOLK SONG, Ladies, any voice, own selection. Miss Kathleen Chappie (Christchurch) 86 points .......;..... 1 Miss 'Gladys Webb (Wellington), 85, points ...... 2 Mr.. Dixpn remarked that the class was a.very good one. Most people knew folk songs, and some of the competitors were inclined to-evade a detailed study of their selection and to depend upon their general knowledge of it. In a public performance more significance was io be expected from" the words and the subject generally. . PIANO DUET, under 10, "Minuet" and ■ "Polka," from//The Dancing Class. The winner's success was due to per naturalness,' good facial expression, and intelligent showing. '•••■. •'.:: RECITATION, Boys, 12 and under 16, . He had also, a feeling for the rhythm of the verse tvhich was so often lacking not only among the ; other competitors but among many other people.' ■-.'■.• HUMOROUS -.
