Party at Porirua. A very pleasant party was given on Saturday evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. Greer, Porirua., in honour of Miss Doreeu Greer. The o veil ing was spent in dancing and musical items. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. C. Greer, Mr. and Mrs. T. Trask (Hawera), Mr. and Mrs. E. Greer, Mr. and Mrs. Busted, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, Miss A. Windley, Mr. E. Gay, Mr. G. Greer, Mr. 0. Greer, jun., Master J. Greer. Concert at Victoria Hospital. A most enjoyable concert "was given last week to the patients in the women's ward at Victoria Hospital by Miss Isabel O'Ecgan, when a delightful programme was presented. Songs, 'cello solos, elocutionary, and pianoforte items were given by Miss O'Eegan, Miss Millar, and Mr. Bradshaw, and ali were greatly appreciated by the patients. Among- the visitors were Sister Daniel and members of the nursing staff. Invitations Issued. Invitations have been issued by the Family of Toe H for a dance to be held shortly. Invitations have been issued by' the Wellington Diocesan Missionary Committee for a conversazione to welcome the Assistant-Bishop of Melanesia, the Right Rev. J. H. Dickinson. An address will be given by Bishop Dickinson. A committee of the Shipping Officers' Guild has issued invitations for a staff d;i.:ice to bo held at St. Francis Hall. All arrangements have been made for a very pleasant evening. The commit- j tee includes Misses Hannafln, V. Atkins, Pearson, Turner, Eyrie, and E. Wynne. Messrs. E. Cockayne, H. Butler, (i. M'Kcchnie, K. Button, G. Frascr, V. A. Hunt, and W. Phillips (hon. secretary). . . Late Mrs. Niinmo. Special mention was made by the Port Missioner (Mr. N. S. Slyfieid) at the evening service at the British Sailors' Society last evening, of the death of Mrs. Hamilton Nimuio. Mrs. Nimmo, he said, was one of the founders of the branch in Wellington, and was for years the convenor of the Ladies' Guild. Mrs. Nimmo would long bo remembered for her kindly nature and sympathy by seafarers the world over. The large congregation stood in silence as a token of respect and sympathy with Mr. Nimmo and family. University Social Service. A large party of students from Victoria University, representing the Social Service Club of the college, visited the Miramar Receiving Home for Girls on .Saturday evening, and gave an acceptable programme of songs, dancing, and games arranged by Mr. Harry Wilson. The club intends visiting the Tiuakori I Home for Girls shortly, and the seere-' tary of the club, Mr. E. Lindsay Page, will be pleased to give, anyone interested information regarding the club's activities. For the remainder of the month concerts have been arranged for the Porirua Hospital and various other institutions in and near Wellington. The club will be glad of assistance in connection with transport to these institutions. Lichfield House. Further news of "Lichfield House" at Bogotu, Solomon Islands, which has been erected through the efforts of the Mothers' Union at Lichfield, England, appears in the "Southern Cross Log." It is stated that "another splendid gesture" on the part of this union is to entirely support a nurse, who is to be stationed at Bogotu with Mrs. Sprott, and will stay at Lichfield House. Miss Nellie Stead, a trained nurse from St. Thomas Babies' Hostel, Kennhigton, who studied at Leicester Royal Infirmary and the Maternity Hospital,

with C.M.B. and M.T.S. certificates, and has had varied experience both as a Queen's nurse "and in private cases, has been appointed, and will travel to Melanesia in September by the Southern Cross. Young Helpers. The Brooklyn Youii< Helpers' League has just concluded a most successful year. The box opening look place at Miss Crabtreo's residence, where the children were-entertained at' tea by (lie hostess, and afterwards gave an excellent impromptu programme. A sale of goods was held in the Methodist Schoolroom, where fairly good business was done. Songs by Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Soul, and recitations by Mrs. C. Hale, Miss Shirley Porteous, and Master Jimmy Smith, were much enjoyed. A presentation of a bouquet was made to the secretary, Mrs. Gardiner. The satisfactory amount of si IS was handed to the Dominion seercliiry (Miss Humphreys), to be forwarded to headquarters in London.
