Mr. Thomas Ashton Ganatt, a wellknown" chemist and optician, passedl away at~his residence in Brooklyn on Wednesday last. The late Mr. Ganatt, nho was in his 67th yeai, came to Next Zealand with, his patents at the"age of 12. His father, Mr. William Thomas Garratt, commenced business as a- chemist at the corner o£ Viviaa and Taranaki streets, this business afterward* being carried on by his son, who was at different times in business ln.Fejlding, Lyttejton, and Taihape. After * brief period of farming in lh» King Country ho re-entered business in Well* ington abo,ut 1922, and was latterly at Miramai. He was twice married, "and leaves a widow and two daughters -and one sen.
