LOCAL PROGRAMME
Saturday, next,-25th 'April, being Anzac Day, is observed as a full holiday. All places of business will be closed, as on a Sunday, and transport services will be running curtailed time-tables, as.is advertised elsewhere. . , . Details for tli 6 arrangements, in regard to the observance of Anzac : Day, drawn up by tho executive of the Wellington ileturned Soldiers' Association under the president, Colonel H. . E. Avery, D.5.0., and the secretary, Major J. T. Watson, are now complete.. They aro of such a nature as' to commend themselves to the general public as being in conformity with what is gen.-, orally recognised as the requirements of the day; that is, solemn observance of the memory of those gallant .heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in obeying their country's-call, and in recognition of the thousands of brave, lads who served their country, faithfully and well. '■\ At the various-city schools,'.<a't 9.30 a.m., tho scholars will assemble for a short ceremony carried out under the supervision of: the chairman and members, of the local school committees. "At their invitation, members of the B.S.A. will attend; and'deliver short addresses appropriate to the occasion. . ; This' year, for the first time, there will, be a finished memorial at which to pay homage, to the illustrious dead. At 11 a.m. a service will be hold at the Citizens' Memorial, now practically completed. This will .be essentially tho children's celebration,, and the wreaths then deposited at the foot of the memorial will be subsequently taken to the. cemetery and placed on the soldiers', graves. Their Excellencies, the Govornor-Gencral, Lord Bledisloe, and .Lady Bledisloe, : have intimated their intention of.!being: present at this service. Their guard of honour will be provided from the warships now in Wellington.-- In. connection with the service .there will be a special parade, not only of New Zealand returned soldiers, but, of "members of the Imperial Forces, Allied' Forces, Australian :Expeditionary Forces, South African Veterans, and Legion of-: Frontiersmen. Members of; these forces will parade at Brandon street ■ at. 10,15 a.m. and fall in on their respective markers, who will carry penants;: signifying the . various units. : : . ■ ■.., y The details of the ceremony at tno memorial are as under.—The corning service will be conducted .by the i.cv. H B. X Fry, 'M.A.j. C.F., vicar;_, of St.-Mark's, at iro'elbek; The laying of floral tributes by representatives of schools and colleges will take place during the service. Tho Anzac Hymn will be played by the. Artillery Band, conducted by Captain T. Herd, V._U. This will be followed by a prayer by Staff Captain" Hayes (Salvation Army) and by an address by the Bevy B._J; Howie, B.A. The hymn, "Lest_We Forget," w.ill bo followed by the "Dead March" in "Saul," played by; tho Artillery Band., After "Last Post" and "Eeveille,'.' sounded by. Mr. B. Aidrich, jun., will' cpine : the,National. Anthem and Benediction. ; NEXT-OF-EIN SERVICE. . Temple White will conduct, and a first-class programme has been arranged. ,-.,..-- ■;;■!■-■ ;. i, IN THE HUTT VALLEY. , In the morning, at Upper Hutt, weather permitting,' services will be held at all the schools, the speakers, being supplied.by the local branch of the Beturned Soldiers' Associatipn. In the afternoon a memorial service will Be held in Maids'tone Park,; at 2.30. A parade of returned soldiers will be strengthened' by a party of ratings under an officer from Trentham' Canip^ South African veterans,'and' Scouts, together with various friendly sociei ties. The local band will head the procession, which will march from the B.S.A. rooms to the Park. ■;.'■'
Anzac services at the Petone Technical High ScHool will behold at 2.30 to-morrow afternoon. The Petone Central School service will commence at 9 a.m. on Anzae Day. Thcißevs. J. C. Loan and B. J. James .will officiato, and Second-Lieutenant B. -W. Toomath will give the. address. ' Services at Petono "West will commence at 9.30 a.m. on Anzac Day. Tho Key. J. T. Crozier and Captain Thompson, of the Salvation Army, will conduct the service, and the address will bo given by Scrgeant-Mzijor G-. Hayton.
