TENTERDEN'S DOUBLE

j. GREEN AGAIN ON TOP

Tenterden, again ridden by the stable apprentice, J. Green, and carrying 13lb more, -won the Stewards' Handicap as decisively as he won the open sprint on the first day. Portray led him out from the tapes, but he ran round to the front at the three furlongs, and, after turning for home clear of Portray, Hunting Call, Keremoana, Staghunter, and Ridgemount, drew further away as the field swept down the straight, and eventually scored by nearly four lengths frpin Reremoana, who •wore down Portray in the final strides. Staghunter was a poor fourth," followed by Kidgemount and Hunting Call. In spite of the winner's marked "superiority on Monday, he was over, £100 less backed than Reremoana, but. again bettors were obviously diffident- about his rider, who has only just begun his public career. With Tenterden's second success, Green had led in two winners in five ndes. Tenterden has struck better form than he has been in at any previous time tins season, and. he. can be. marked off as likely to succeed in first-class sprints before lie is much older. Eeremoana galloped satisfactorily, but he had no chance with the winner. Now ten years old, he is no back number, and he is likely to improve with the couple of races he has had recently. Portray was always going smoothly, but he is not quite up to the best class. It was a ragged start, and Ridgemount was tangled in the tapes, which did not appear to rise properly at the outside pylon.
