BRITISH SAILORS' SOCIETY.

Easter at the rooms of the British Sailors' Society was a very pleasant one. On Good Friday there was a good attendance of seafarers, despite the weather, for the service, and for the "hot cross bun" supper. On Saturday there was a large number present for the social evening, games, songs, and instrumental items were given and a very happy evening was spent. Supper was served. ,0n Sunday the sailors' tea was presided over by Mrs. Styles and her helpers. There was a fine attendance" for the Gospel service, the preacher being Mr. Gardiner, of Lower Hutt. During the service solos were sung by Mr. Padman and also by Mr. Gardiner. The song service was a very inspiring time; the men sang their favourite hymns. On Easter Monday tlie picnic party set out for Maori Bank, the grounds being again kindly lent by Mr. E. Quinn. A happy time was spent in games and sports, etc. Luncheon and tea was served m ideal surroundings. In the evening a very enjoyable concert had been arranged by Mrs. Ethel Hardies entertainers; the seating accommodation was taxed to its utmost, and the men had to stand even on t!>o stairs. The performers had to respond to encores time after time. A vote of thanks was carried with acclamation and cheers, and Mr. Wilkie responded on behalf of the entertainers. Supper was served by the, workers of (lie society. Items were contributed by Mesdames Ethel Hardic and Stowcrs, Misses Harris, J. Barrett, P. Creig, Joan Wright, B. Rosen: thai, Z. and T. Hardie, and A. and M. Miller; Messrs. Wilkinson, Turner, V. Wilkie, Jones. Kin<r, T. Williams. P. Koenan (Hertford), and tlic Glee Party under the leadership of Mr. Turner. Mrs. Ethel Hai'die was the accompanist.
