BOXING

On Tuesday next Alan Whitlow is to make his second appearance, his opponent on this occasion being Johns, of Auckland, who holds the New Zealand lightweight title. The Aueklandor has taken part in two professional contests only, winning the title on his first appearance and later creating a surprise by his showing against Donovan, the decision in'the Jsitter's favour being disagreed with by a largo majority present. As an amateur Johns won against all-comers, his clever fast work being reminiscent of Purdy at his best. In Whitlow he will be meeting a fast attacking fighter whoso speed and experience should counter-balance the difference in weight in Johns's favour. Holders of preferential booking rights are advised that the plan will open to-morrow morning, while general booking will operate from Friday morning.
