INCONSISTENT CENSORS

An original form o£ censorship of the film, has been introduced in the ultra-clerical province of Vorarlberg in the popular Vienna picture, "Nur Dich hab' ich Geliebt.'' Tho sccno is a night resort where the dresses of the dancers are of the scantiest description. Although the film censor at Vienna has allowed the picture, which has been running for some months, the provincial censor in Vorarlberg declared that tho dresses of the dancers were "sinful." Since it is impossible to cut the offending strip, as in a silent film, as this would ruin the synchronisation of the srasiOj the censor decried that ppaqu© material should be pasted over

the offending section of the film. Therefore, ou the commencement of a tango a black strip appears on the screen covering the. dancers from the nock downwards until the dance ends. On tUo other hand, a Monarchist film was shown without objection in Austria's clerical provinces, althcagh it is forbidden for juveniles in Vienna cinemas. The film, "The Emperor Francis Joseph as Euler and Man," has been banned by the Vienna Provincial Government, which is Socialist. It is declared to be "unsuitedj to persons under 16 because the mm. presents only the favourable qualities ol! the Empire, giving a picture of the Monarchy which is historically untrue and calculated to mialoaJ youth."
