OBITUARY

, —♦ —— The death ocourroa at the Wellington Hospital on Thursday, after a short illness of Mr. William John Harris. Born £ theTaranaki district in 1856, during the Maori Wars, Mr. Harris came to Wellington as a young man. In ISHJ he Sod Miss E. J. Webb. He joined the Naval Brigade when it was formed, and remained a member until the brigade disbanded, with the rank of petty officer. He was a champion rifle shot for many years, and took second place in the New Zealand riflo championship in 1885. He leaves a widow, three sons, three daughters, and fitteen grandchildren. One son was killed at the war. A Press Association telegram announces the death at Christehurch last evening of Mr. Obed Caygill, well known in cricket circles. He played in Christehurch for 38 years and was prominent in the administration of the game for many years. An old Dunedin merchant, Mr. George Lymar Sise, founder of Messrs. Bates, Sise, and Company, passed away on Friday. He was born as far back as 1830, but the greater part of his life was spent in Dunedin. The business for a number of years.has been carried on by the sons. ~ , The death took place suddenly on Tuesday last at the Wellington Meat Export Company's works of Mr. John Croft. Mr. Croft had not enjoyed the best of health for some time past. The deceased arrived in New Zealand in 1901, coming from Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, and had resided in Petono and Hutt district most of tho time since. Tho funeral took place at Taiti Cemetery. His wife, who predeceased him about a year ago, was formerly a Miss Overcnd, of Kanvarawarn. The lato Mr. Croft leaves two sons, John and Eobert, also three sisters and a brother, Mrs. J. Stubbs (Hawkestonc terrace, Wellington), Mrs. C. L. Russell: (Hamilton road, Hataitai), Mrs. H. Sinclair (Ngata street, Palmerston North), and Mr. J. E. Croft (Palmerston North).
