MOSLEM WOMEN
ESCAPE FROM BONDAGE CONGRESS AT JERUSALEM JteRUSAfEM, 30 th July. A great mass congress of Eastern wonien, which was attended by delegates from every Moslem country, has concluded after a week's discussion. It represents the first concerted move to escape from the bondage of Islamic customs. The most oustaudiug decision was the abolition of the veil, allowing women to appear barefaced in the streets. Other decisions were that a ■ bridegroom and a bride should be permitted to see each other before marriage; the regularisation of divorce, making it possible for a wife as well as a husband, and that eighteen be the legal minimum age for marriage.
