■ ♦ MERCHANTS AND PRICES PRINCIPLE OF. -TENDER (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, 31st July. Renewed protest is to bo mado to the Government by tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce against the policy of not announcing particulars of the number of tenders accepted by the Stores Control Board. The mattor was considered by the council of the chamber to-day. "As you are aware the proposal has been repeatedly reviewed by the board, and from a perusal of the file I am satisfied that no. useful purpose would be served by reopening it," stated tho Minister of Public Works, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, in a letter dated 21st July. "You have already been advised that in a majority of cases the board does discloso prices, but it is a matter upon which discretion must be preserved. As in the past, each case will be considered on its merits, but the board is not prepared to vary tho present policy." It was resolved that a protest be made to the Government on the ground that all purchases should be made by ordinary procedure of public tender.
