OTAGO GRIEVANCE
EXPENSES FOR DIVER
(By' Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") DUNBDIN, This Day. Somo dissatisfaction has been caused iv Otago swimming circles over the belated request from the New Zealand Swimming Council for an additional £10 towards E. C. Calder's expenses to the Empire Games in Canada. Originally the council advised that the expenses would be approximately £.120, and that Otago's quota was £70. This amount was aimed at by tho Otago Centre, which worked with enthusiasm to raise the money. In three: weeks the money was raised, the collection lists vvero closed, and the amount was forwarded to the New Zealand Council. Since' then the New Zealand Swimming Association has been advised by the Empire Games Association that it is expected to find £135 for each competitor, and at its meeting Otago was asked to find another £10. The president, Mr. J. L. M'lndoe, pointed out th.-it Otago had responded, well, and that since the Centro had closed its lints tho rowers had boon making an appeal, so that it was impossible to reopeu the lists. He also stressed the fact that, as L. Moorhouse was not now going to the Games, the council would have £50 less to find towards . the swimmers' expenses. It was decided to advise the New Zealand Council that, owing to the lack of time, Otago could not be expected to find the additional £10. ;
