WANGANUI A STOPPING PLACE

WANGANTJI, This Day. At a meeting of the Wangaxui Aero Club a conference iva. held with Mr. C. W. Eobinson, representing Dominion Airlines, Ltd., and. Messrs. I. L. Eight (Dannevirke) and H. Oram (Palmerston North), directors of the company, regarding . the possibility of Dominion iirliucs, Ltd., making Wanganui a stopping, place. After the conference, Mr. Kight announced that in about six months' time the North Island air service would make the Wanganui airport a stopping place. "Iv a Sow weeks," said' Mr. Eight, "tin Gisborne aud Nelson routes will bo opened, and Wanganui in about six months' time." Ho added that Wanganui, with its river and close flying proximity to National Park, Taupo (which was only one hour away), and Mount Egmont, should be a gathering- place for all tourists, and would be an ideal centre for .aerial taxi services of the North Island. Already several light machines ■for this purpose (three-seater Spart. ts) had left England. On inquiries being ma ■} regarding the airport road, it was ascertained that when a number of formalities are complied with (tho road runs through several private properties), tho Public Works Department will be able tv, start operations, and as there are m. engineering difficulties to contend with it should not take long to complete the road.
