EASTBOURNE TIME-TABLE
(To th« Editor.)
Sir,—l should like to call the attention of the Eastbourne Borough Council to its policy regarding the winter time-tables. Every year this false economy takes place, and hits the wrong people—that is, the workers. The usual cry goes up, the boats and buses are not paying; we must formulate a plan to make them pay. Then boats are taken off without considering first the worker, who is obliged to travel at certain hours; then, in addition to this, he is compelled to pay an extra fare on top of his season ticket. Now, there is one section of the community which is not affected by changes in time-tables or fares, and who complacently smile "from their well-padded cars. The car-owners are not helping to make the boats and buses pay. I should like to make a suggestion which would lift the burden £rom the wrong shoulders, and help to bring about a better ijustinent.* Why not levy a tax upon car-owners in Eastbourne? A very large percentage o£ Eastbourne residents own cars. This tax should result in quite a substantial revenue, and I should like to suggest that it be not for the winter months only, but remain permanent. There can be no progress in a community where there is not all-round ]us-tice.-I am, etc., pAIR . MINDm
