MOUNTEDS' CAMP CANCELLED

Advice has been received that Cabinet has authorised the expenditure of £850 on repairs io the bath houses and accommodation huts at the Maruia Springs. The Hon. E. A. Bansom, Minister of Public Works, has notified Mr. G/C. Black, M.P., that 50 additional men will be put on'the Midland railway,'ivorkjimniediately. Now that the tides are making, there is every prospect of •■: refloating' the Anchor Company's steamer Titoki. off the sandbank at the entrance to the Motueka harbour, . to-night; or-to-mor-row morning. ....'■'? '::' ''" '.'■.'■''" In accordance with the Prime Minister's announcement of the cancellation of military training campus, in order to reduce the expenditure on land defence, the Nelsori-Marlborough Mounted Bifles' camp,whiclrwas arranged for Blenheim next week, will not be held. It is understood that all-the-,infantry-camps in New Zealand have been .ield for this training year, and-so the.-«an-cellation of further camps. will affect mounted troops only.. .'.. "'■ -. :~_ .; The steamer Otaki sailed-tfiis. evening for Wellington with.-'her;full quota'"of 55,000 caseS :of export .apples, ~13;6flO of which are for Glasgow.and the remainder for Manchester. .More, fruit than was required for the Otaki "has come from the orchards, and the surplus is being sent to Wellington-for Home loading. The Otaki will load 30,000 cases of apples for South America at Wellington. The pre-cooling of apples for direct shipment by the Zealandic, which arrives here at the end pf next week, commenced at Motueka, to-day, and the Stoke works will commence storing for the shipment td-morrowv It is estimated that the three shipping points, Mapua, Motueka, and Nelson, are at present receiving a ■ total of from 15,000 to 18,000 cases of export apples daily. .. ,■■ ■ The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Nelson Bugby, Eeferees' Association:—Patron,' Mr. A.
