For his fourth offence of drunkenness within six months, William M'Pherson Grant, aged CO, was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment. On a charge of having been found on licensed premises after hours, Joseph Carrutbers and Thomas Wearne were fined £2 each. SeniorSergeant Ward said that the' defendant, who boarded at Mrs. Hall's house, converted to 'us own use £1 given to him by the complainant to pay a gas account. He disappeared for some time, but when interviewed later by a constable he admitted having taken the money, and said that he had been drinking. An application had since been made on- behalf of Mrs. Hall to have the charge withdrawn, but the defendant had been before the Court previously, arid it was decided not to withdraw proceedings.
