MAGISTRATE'S COURT
♦ ■ Police and summons oases were dealt with in the Magistrate's Court to-day by Mr. E. Page, S.M. A first offender for drunkenness, who did not appear, was fined 10s, the amount of his bail. For his fourth offence of drunkenness within six months, William M'Pherson Grant, aged CO, was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment. On a charge of having been found on licensed premises after hours, Joseph Carrutbers and Thomas Wearne were fined £2 each. ''' ■~.■_ Charged with having trespassed on Hutt Park racecourse, Ernest Wright wad fined £5 and costs. i Gerald M'Whirter, who did not appear, was fined £5, in default 14 days' imprisonment, on a charge of having stolen £1, belonging to Mrs. Ellen Hall. SeniorSergeant Ward said that the' defendant, who boarded at Mrs. Hall's house, converted to 'us own use £1 given to him by the complainant to pay a gas account. He disappeared for some time, but when interviewed later by a constable he admitted having taken the money, and said that he had been drinking. An application had since been made on- behalf of Mrs. Hall to have the charge withdrawn, but the defendant had been before the Court previously, arid it was decided not to withdraw proceedings.
