BIG BOXING MATCH
«. . — . SARRON v. DONOVAN. Not only is the interest in the SarronDonovan contest far greater] than that showu in any previous boxing contest staged iv New Zealand, but the bookings easily constitute a record. The fact that the event is taking place in the open air —at the Kilbirnie Stadium to-morrow afternoon—makes the occasion unique, and with provision • for fully 20,000 people there is every prospect of the attendance being a long way ahead of that which was recorded at the memorable contest between Burns and Johnson in Sydney. Work is proceeding apace at the Stadium, where the ring has been erected in the centre of the ground and around it many thousands of seats are being installed. '.Che extensive permanent seating accommodation at the Stadium will also be available. A plan giving directions to all who intend to be present is published elsewhere in this issue. This shows that insido the track there are four main blocks, viz., north, east, southland west. These have been set apart for holders of reserved tickets, as well as for others paying for admission to this enclosure. The j whole of the permanent Stadium seats are unreserved, and will be available at a smaller charge than that for admission to the enclosure. For those not going on to the enclosure the entrance will bo by way of Yulo street; all others—reserved seat ticket holders, officials,, and those desiring unreserved seats on the ground— are to take the Coutts street entrance. Sarron and Donovan arc both reported to be in excellent form, and confidently anticipate giving an even better account of themselves than at New Plymouth. Their bout is timed to commence at 2.15 p.m. THE PRELIMINARIES. The following contests willtake place a-s^ preliminaries to the big bout at the Kilbirnio Stadium to-morrow afternoon:— B. Ragsdalo v. C. Gardiner (heavy-weight champion of New Zealand), W. Strickland v. W. Arbuthnot, J. Tasker v. J. Connors, W. Cubbitt v. J. Jackson, C. Taylor v. P. Keith, and R. Furze (Waitara) v. Norris. The Bagsdale-Gardiner preliminary will be of special interest, as Gardiner is an aspirant for inclusion in the New Zealand team for the Empire Games, which take place in Canada next August, and his form in to-morrow's contest will give the New Zealand Boxing Council's representative a lead as to whether a recommendation will be made. Furze, one of Donovan's sparring partners, defeated Dromboski prior to tho big bout at New Plymouth, and should put nP a ccrditable performance against Norris, the local crack welter-weight. Tho preliminaries are to commence at 1.4 D p.m,
