THREE MEN ARRESTED
TWO OTHERS SUSPECTED
An allegation that they stole a cash box and about £58 17s lOd in money J at tho Terminus Hotel yesterday was j made in the Magistrate's' Court to-day against three men—Richard Jones, alias Preston, showman, aged 50; Thomas Hunter, butcher, aged 45; and Hiehard Haslam Smith, showman and salesman. Chief-Detective Lopdell said that the three men were apparently concerned with others in a concerted move in. the hotel which resulted in the disappearance of the cash box and the money. The accused were arrested late last night, and in view of tho fact that full particulars were not available at the present time lie asked for a remand until Monday morning. The three accused asked for bail, but this the chief detective opposed. Mr. Lopdell said that inquiries were being made about the movements of others and he was anxious that they should not be interrupted in any way. Replying to a question from the Magistrate (Mr. E. Page), the chief detective said that the allegation was that Jones, Hunter, and Smith were in the bar at the Terminus Hotel with two others when there was a knock outside and the proprietor's wife was called. It was not known at present Whether the men were responsible for the knock. The proprietor's wife left the. bar, however, and the door had to be unlocked before she could get back into the bar. She found tho men in a state of' confusion and they immediately went out. Some minutes later she missed the cash box. The other two persons alleged to be concerned in the disappearance of tho cash box had not been located, nor had the money been found. Tho Magistrate refused bail. j
