MUST HAVE PROXIES

SOLICITORS AT CREDITORS'

MEETINGS

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")

CHBISTCHUKCH, This Day

In future solicitors representing creditors at meetings in bankrupt estates held in Ohristehurch before the Official Assignee (Mr. J. H. Robertson) ,will have to bo armed with powers of attorney or proxies to substantiate their right to be present and vote.. "Apparently the practice has grown up in Christchurch of solicitors appearing at meetings of creditors and moving motions and voting without having any proper power of attorney," said Mr. Bobertson, at a meeting yesterday. "In future it will be necessary to have a proper power of attorney or proxy. While I am on the subject, I may as well tell you, gentlemen, that no one here is properly represented. A firm cannot just send an employej along to a meeting and be properly, represented. When an employee comes along he must have_ a power of attorney or proxy showing his right to vote. "That is correct, is it not, Mr. Laaeelles?" asked tho Official Assignee. "I'm afraid that it is, strictly," said Mr. W. 11. Lascellcs, "but we've been very comfortable here. In the other way there was the trouble of filling in forms and that sort of thing," ho said. The Official Assignee said that tho procedure was simple. All that had to be done was to obtain forms from his office. His position, unless this were done, was that a bankrupt's solicitor might object to the meeting going on, as it was informal.
