Earlier in the session the Conservatives had intro- | duced an..amendment calling for rescission of an Order-iu-Council making the treaty applicable to New Zealand. Mj\ Gardiner urged that agriculture was being used to secure markets for the manufacturing industry,' objecting to any Canadian industry being used for the benefit of any other. He declared that the Australian treaty discrimination, when the convention was applied .to New Zealand, resulted'in ii great inflow of butter.and consequent depressing of prices ,in Canada. The only reason that-Australian butter-did not enter Canada in great volume was because the dumping clause applied.
