MR. JENKINS TO RESIGN

AUCKLAND, This Day

Mr. H. E. Jenkins, M.P. for Parnell, who recently seceded from the United Party to become an Independent, announced this aftrenoon that he is resigning his seat, and will re-contest it at a by-election. Mr. J. S. Diekson intends to stand against Mr. Jenkins whatever happens. At the General Election in 1928, there were three candidates for the Parnoll seat, Messrs. J. S. Diekson (Eeform), Jenkins (United), and Yarnall (Labour). Mr. Jenkins received 5G42 votes, Mr. Diekson 4793, and Mr. Yarnall 16G1, the majority for Mr. Jenkins being 849.
