PETONE REQUIREMENTS
Afc a meeting of the executive council of the Petone Chamber of Commerce it was pointed out that Petone with its large population had only three slot telephones. These were inadequate and congestion was caused at the post office. It was desired, pending instalment of the proposed automatic exchange, that temporary relief be given by the provision of slot telephones for local use. It was decided to write to the Telegraph Engineer to ask further consideration of urgent Hutt Valley needs in this respect. A letter was received stating that unemployment might be acute in the coming winter. It was decided to ask the assistance of local bodies and industrial concerns in maintaining local men where possible.
The time was considered^ opportune for a poll to be taken for a loan for street widening. It was decided to endeavour to assist the Borough Council by furnishing particulars where possible of the lowest considerations property owners would accept. It was thought by giving some definite idea of the actual cost that the council would be able_ to come to a decision at its nest meeting. . „
