THE MOTOR-CYCLE
BRITISH SUPREMACY
The "Motor Cycle" has issued a special "British Supremacy" number (16th January). Commenting editorially on the position in regard to the motor-cycle it says:— "Once again it is our pleasure to publish an issue specially dedicated to the men and women who have upheld British supremacy. In the past year on road and track Britain has main-tained-her position as a producer of the best motor-cycles and the best riders in the world. How long this will continue no one can tell; our supremacy is now being challenged by other couu tries who realise, just as we do,1 thi' value a nation.gains from proving tin , superiority of. its products over a' others. "There must-be-no slackening of effort among motor-cycle manufacturers if we are to retain our position. Anc once we'lose ascendancy in road races trials, 'and the world record list, thi foreigners will begin-to usurp the mnr kets we havo for years steadily created and built up. "To.British motor-cyclists this mean: far more than.is generally realised. T is due to our vast exports, which la./ year amounted in value to well ove; £4,000,000, that the motor-cycles wt buy are such, remarkablo value fo;. money, for large production is the kc;> to low production costs, and is the.explanation: of the present high quality a: low prices. "With such large exports the indus try is .a most valuable asset to- the country. The credit balance for the twleve months ended 31st December, that is the balance of exports over imports, is slightly over four million pounds, or almost double that of the whole British car industry."
