The Minister of Internal Affairs (tha Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle) left for lavereargill last night.
The Minister of Education (the Hon. H. Atmore) returned yesterday from Hawkes Bay, and last night proceeded to his electorate (Nelson). He is expected in Wellington on Tuesday.
Mr. F. MacKenzie, Government Valuer, who is still confined to bed at the Lewisham Hospital, is progressing slowly, but is not yet allowed to see visitors. ■ ■>'
Mr. Justice Ostler leaves Wellington on Monday to preside at the sessions of the Supreme Court in Masterton.
Mr. Justice Blair is expected'to return to Wellington on. Wednesday from Gisborne and Napier. ■ .
Mr. Justice Frazer and. the other members' of the Arbitration Court, Messrs. L. J. Schmitt and A. L. Monteith, returned to Wellington t^-day from Auckland.
The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) returned from Eotorua, where he spent the past fortnight, this morning. Ho has been much benefited by the" trip. Mr. Troup will leave for the Municipal Conference at In vereargill on Monday evening. ' ...'".'
Members of the. literary staff of tho "Evening Post" assembled yesterday afternoon to express their good wishes to their colleague, Mr. H.: Ivo Forde, on the occasion of his approaching marriage. In handing Mr. Forde a cheque on behalf of the staff, tho editor referred to the high esteem in which. Mr. Forde was held, and wished him revery happiness in the future. Mr. Fordo suitably responded.
Mr.. W. Burns, overseer of the bookbinding department of -thel Government Printing Office, was recently farewelled by the members ■ of :■ the Bookbinders' Chapel when he retired after 40 years'service. Th&-Govern-ment Printer (Mr. W. G. Skinner) presented Mr. Burns with a morocco bound portfolio containing photographs of the staff and the interior of the office as well as with a well-filled wallet from the staff. Tie girls of the department contribute!! to a travelling rug and cigarette case. Mr. H. Carter, who will tako Mr. Burns' position, and the new sub-overseer (Mr. J. Blowman) were fittingly welcomed. ■ :
Mr. J. B. Christie, solicitor to the State Advances Department,., who is retiring on superannuation after about 23 years' service, was th 6 recipient of a presentation from the. staff of the Department yesterday. In presenting Mr. Christie with a well-filled wallet for himself and a string of pearls for Mrs. Christie, the Superintendent (Mr. W, Waddell) referred to Mr/ Chrint.ie's long service* and said he-had ■ showa himself an efficient, zealous, and painstaking officer, astute, cautious, and methodical to a degree.' Ho had always had the interests of the Department at heart, and his record was unclouded —a record which the younger members of the staff might with advantage to themselves strive to emulate. Mr. Waddell expressed the hopo ; that Mr. Christie would be long spared to enjoy the rest he had earned. On behalf of the staffl ho wished Mr. and : Mrs. Christie bon voyage on the extended trip abroad they intended to take at an early date. Mr. Christie suitably responded; '■' ■
