The Plunke't Shield, cricket match between Canterbury and Otogo was resumed in fine weather. The wicket is in excellent order. E. Talbot 13 and J. I. Powell continued Canterbury's innings. . After making another 10 Talbot ; was caught by Lemin, ■ off Knight. 2?,9_6—23. Dorreen joined Powell, and play immediately brightened, fifty being added in twenty minutes, despite the many bowling .changes. Powell survived several appeals for.stumping. Moloney proved expensive.. At 39, Powell was dropped by Barron. He followed'with-a sixer, raising the score, to 338. ' Dorreen was going stea,dily. Powel continued merrily. He again lifted Moloney over the fence. The fourth century was hoisted at 12.40. Powell was then 93. The pace now increased. Boundaries were numerous, and the bowlers were slogged unmercifully.
