BIG TENNIS
TO-DAY'S MATCHES
AUSTRALIANS IN ACTION
Having won in-yesterday's play but] ono match out of six, the North Island lawu tennis team will be facing a different task when they resume tho offensive this afternoon against the visiting Australians. Yesterday's play at Miramar was all in favour of the visitors, and the most optimistic New Zealarider can hardly expect yesterday's decisive verdict to be reversed. But that does not really matter—the game is the thing, and in this meeting between Australia and tho North Island lawn tennis of a quality seldom seen in the Dominion is being seen. There was a very good gate yesterday, and to-day, with a continuance of tho fine weather, tho number of spectators should bo even, larger. Whatever the result of tho matches, sterling tennis is assured. , ' To-day's matches are as follows:—U. Sproule V. C. E. Malfroy, W. E. 'league v. N. R, C. Wilson, F. Kalms v. D. fcr. France, and C. Donohuo v. A. Stedman. In the two doubles matches Kalms and 'league will be. partnered against France and Malfroy, and Sproule and Donohue against Wilson and Stedman. C. Sproule (Australia) beat C. Malfroy, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. 7 W. Teaguo (Australia) lost to IN. Wilson, 1-6, 3-6. .
