Rakwpol.'.cleared ; the Hurdle, but Quiet Deal did not.as he jiitit with his forelegs and turned.a complete somersault. Cairns was thrown put of the saddle, but as .he. lay on the ground'the quarters' bf Quick-Deal crashed, down on his head. Cairns received a very extensive fracture of the base of. the skull and died in a few minutes after being: conveyed to the cas-ualty.-room. ■ . ..

Saunders, and asked him if his boy, •G. - 3Xay., 'could ride Rakwool at Moonee -Valley. Saunders assented, but later: May said to him, "I wish you had not made v the engagement for me for Rakwool; as, I; can get the ride on Quick Deal. Do you think you could get" the ride' on Rakwool cancelled?" Saunders .rbfused to do so'and insisted that May should ride Rakwool. ' That was how Cairns came to ride Quick Deal.
