STRONG RESENTMENT
PROPOSED TAXATION INCREASES

Strong resentiflent against Sif Joseph Ward's proposal to.increase taxation in order to balaaco hU Budget was expressed by members of th» Canterbury Chamber of Commerce tonight. Every speaker declared with emphasis that the crying .need of th» country was for economy and reduced taxation. References to the rapid growth, of taxation, to the increasing costs of Government, to the. growing army of Civil servants, and to harass, ing interference by Government Departments with business: were frequent and emphatic. \'' ■. \ The only resolution passed "was that the matter be referred to the Economics Committee.
