FREE KINDERGARTEN
Arrangements for ft children's fancy dross party to be held towards the end of the month were 'carried well forward at a meeting of Mothers' Club held in' the Taranaki street kindergarten. Representatives-were chosen to attend the annual meeting of the National Council of , Women. Miss Scott spoke interestingly o*'her-trip to Christchurch for the' recent refresher course for kindergarten teachers. A satisfactory" sum. 1 of money was then obtained through the sale erf articles brought along for the "Bring and Buy" afternoon, after which tea brought an interesting 1 "meeting to a close. . .. i .', , In celebration of its completion of ten years of activity" the Taranaki street kindergarten Mothers" , Club recently held a very successful social evening. Games and competitions. were heartily enjoyed, ifre ', '.Smelling. Competition especially /caused much merriment. Vocal and-, • elocutionary > items were rendered by Mrs. King ana Miss Ethel I Creaghj and Miss Margaret Oates pleased all- with a Dutch dance The. serving of an 1 e*e6llent supper brought a pleasant evening to a close,. The first meeting.of mothers of the children attending the -Moera branch of the Lower "Hutf Free-""Kindergarten was held on Thursday afternoon, when, although the weather was bad, there was a good number present. It is intended to hold such 'meetings throughout the school year, so that the mothers may. meet the- principal informally and.: talk > over any-, matters of kindergarten interest. For the inaugural meeting Miss Kiley jgave a most interesting address, tracing f kindergarten" from its origin to the presentday stage. i A dainty afternoon tea was then served by the teachers, after which the mothers - joined yin games with the children. As there is ample space in the hall, the mothers were able to bring all the little ones, who wore busily engaged with' baby playthings while the meeting was in progress. Among those" present Avere Mesdames Baker, Barker, Collings, Dodd, Douglas, Goodfellow> Horior, Eoare, Illingworth, Johnson, Nicholls, Pauhn, Paris, -Rentoul, Stuait, and Sutton.
