INCANDESCENT LAVA

Australian Press Association—United Service

(Received sth June, 10 a.m.)

NAPLES,-4th June.

Accompanied by violent explosions- a new eruptive crater has appeared in Vesuvius, from which lava is fast pouring through. Experts believe that the villages at present are not, menaced, but prayers are being offered in the churches and market places imploring God to remove the danger. Hundreds of thousands are watching the magnificent spectacle of a pijlar of smoke, shot ■with incandescent streaks and spreading- over the- volcano's crest flood, submerged in the sea, j of red hot lava and cinders. Special trains are being held in readiness to remove the villagers.
