LONDON, Ist June. .; • iour thousand watched Compston and Hagen play the thirty-six hole match at Moorpark, where last year Compston beat the American by the record margin, 18 up and 17 to play. To-day Hagen never reached championship form and seemed to play nonchalantly, as though it were a mere exhibition game. Compston took the lead at the beginning and kept it. H«' led 2 up at the end of tha first half th« score being 71 and 73. The ultimate victory was Compston's when he was 8 m> with 7to play. The defeat of Hagen a attributable to his inaccurate approaching; and putting. - Compston was - steady ■ throughout.
