HOBART, This Day,
A long-sentence prisoner in Hobart Gaol escaped by cutting through the steel bars and plates of the condemned cell in which he had been placed. A hacksaw was evidently used, and the task must have ocupied several days. Soap was used in the cuts to avoid detection. The man scaled the wall of the yard, which is 30ft high, and climbed over the roofs of several buildings. This is the second occasion the same man has escaped from custody.
